WBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin), SolvBTC (Solv Protocol) and AUSD0 (Agora) are the first tokens to launch on Starknet using LayerZero’s OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) standard. Stargate is also live, giving users and developers immediate access to Starknet through one of the most popular Bridges in DeFi today.
This is a significant upgrade for Starknet: With LayerZero offering a standardized, widely adopted messaging layer and Stargate providing a trusted bridging interface, Starknet gains a stronger position within the broader multichain ecosystem.
What’s LayerZero?
LayerZero is an interoperability protocol that connects blockchains, enabling tokens and applications to operate seamlessly across networks. By providing standardized messaging and token expansion through its OFT Standard, LayerZero allows tokens to exist across many chains with a single unified supply, powering global liquidity and cross-chain settlement. LayerZero operates as neutral infrastructure with configurable security, where applications and issuers
select their own DVN-based verification stack to match their risk and compliance requirements.
For Starknet users and builders, the key aspects of this infrastructure are:
- Configurable security via DVNs: At the foundation is LayerZero’s omnichain messaging layer, secured by Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs). Each application on Starknet can choose its own security stack per message route, selecting which DVNs validate cross-chain messages. This allows developers to align verification cost, speed, and security assurances with the specific needs of their use case, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all trust model.
- OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) Standard: OFT is a simple, unified framework that allows tokens to move across chains with consistent logic. This is the part Starknet plugs into: the battle-tested token standard and its ecosystem of applications like Stargate, powered by LayerZero’s underlying messaging architecture.
- Stargate: Finally, OFTs bridge seamlessly through Stargate, LayerZero’s leading interface for omnichain token transfers. Stargate has facilitated over $75 billion in value transfer and is trusted by major issuers. It brings global reach, proven reliability, and a streamlined user experience.
How LayerZero works
The key to LayerZero’s approach is its omnichain messaging protocol, which lets smart contracts on one chain read and write data on another. Rather than relying on a single global trust model, developers can configure their own security assumptions through Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs)—independent verification committees that validate cross-chain messages according to each application’s needs.
LayerZero also introduced the OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) standard, which lets a token operate natively across all connected chains while maintaining a single, unified supply. Conceptually, OFT works like a shared accounting system, where each chain is a node in the same ledger. When tokens move between networks, supply is updated in real time and remains verifiable end to end. Instead of relying on wrapped tokens and fragmented liquidity, OFTs use cross chain messaging secured by the issuer’s chosen DVN configuration.
OFTs operate through mint and burn mechanics that work the same on every blockchain it’s deployed on. Transferring an OFT between two blockchains involves two steps:
- The token is burned on the source blockchain
- An equal amount is minted on the new blockchain

For projects that have already deployed a token on a single chain, the OFT Adapter can be used to extend the token across all LayerZero supported chains. Instead of burning, the Adapter locks the original tokens on the source chain and mints an equivalent amount on the destination. When tokens return, the OFT tokens are burned and the originals unlocked, keeping global supply consistent. Any existing deployed token on Starknet can be retrofitted with the OFT Adapter to
unlock new cross-chain solutions.

For Starknet, this unlocks immediate and meaningful benefits.
Connecting Starknet to 160+ Ecosystems
Users can move tokens into Starknet faster, more cheaply, and from a broader range of networks than ever before. This strengthens Starknet’s DeFi landscape by making liquidity far more free-flowing and reducing the friction that typically comes with bridging and wrapped tokens.
Support for major Bitcoin tokens
The ecosystem now has direct access to cross-chain liquidity from OFT-supported tokens.
Major Bitcoin tokens, including wBTC, SolvBTC, along with AUSD0 will be available as OFTs from the outset, with additional tokens expected to follow.
Stargate
Through Stargate, LayerZero’s battle-tested bridge, users can seamlessly transfer OFTs via an interface that has already moved over $90 billion in value. Any OFT that is moved on Stargate, moves for just the cost of gas.
New developer tooling
Non-EVM compatibility has been a major barrier for teams looking to deploy or bridge tokens to Starknet. The OFT standard eliminates that friction by providing projects with a unified, cross-chain token format that offers customizable security options. This significantly reduces the technical lift required for teams to bring their tokens to Starknet.
Developers on Starknet also gain powerful new tools. LayerZero’s messaging stack lets applications choose their own security model for each route, aligning verification costs and guarantees with the specific needs of every use case. The OFT standard provides a simple, production-ready path to launch omnichain tokens, supported by robust documentation and APIs.
LayerZero and Stargate’s launch on Starknet is a significant step for the network. Their integration brings global liquidity, reliable cross-chain messaging, and a proven interoperability layer that many leading projects already use. With this upgrade, Starknet becomes even stronger as a ZK-rollup and better positioned to attract new applications and capital from across the ecosystem.
